There was plenty of positive news from the Kit Kat Tailteann Games at the weekend with Knockbeg College's Brian Kelly and Michelle Mulhare of Presentation College Portlaoise, both coming home with medals

The 46th running of the KitKat Tailteann Schools’ Interprovincial at Santry on Saturday was another winner for Irish athletics with four new championships best performances and a host of personal bests. This was despite the inclement weather which made achieving such heights even more difficult.

Kelly done extremely well to hold off Adam Ingram in the 800 metres final with just 17 hundreths of a second seperating the pair at the finishing line, with the Knockbeg college student finishing in a time of 1.58.21

In the girls 3000 metres Michelle Mulhare put in a strong performance, ensuring she finished inside the medals with a third place finish following a time of 10.34.74. Michelle was a little over 14 seconds ahead of fourth placed J. Hills of Shimna Integrated while she was 16 seconds adrift of the second place finisher E. Black of Belfast.

Meanwhile there was further good news for Brian Kelly on Tuesday with the announcement of the Kit Kat Irish School's teams which will travel to Bedford on Saturday July 19th for the prestigious SIAB Schools International.

Brian will represent Ireland in the 800m Boys event, along with Adam Ingram of Hazelwood Integrated School. A total of 80 athletes will be on the Irish team for the International, with an equal representation in both Boys and Girls events.
