A strong second quarter display ensured Laois secured their Liam McCarthy Cup status for 2009 following a comfortable ten-point victory over Carlow at Dr. Cullen Park on Saturday.

Storming second half comeback not enough as Down progress E-mail

Trailing by nine-points at the interval a determined Laois side staged a strong second-half comeback against Down at O'Moore Park tonight, but in the end the O'Moore's made their exit from the 2008 Championship, as a last-ditch MJ Tierney attempt to send the game to extra-time slithered the wrong side of the cross-bar, as Down held out for a two-point win.

Following a misfiring evening against Longford at Pearse Park, Laois forwards Ross Munnelly and MJ Tierney have been dropped by O’Moore’s manager Liam Kearns, for this Saturday’s Round 2 All-Ireland SFC Qualifier against Down at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise.
