Trailing by nine-points at the interval a determined Laois side staged a strong second-half comeback against Down at O'Moore Park tonight, but in the end the O'Moore's made their exit from the 2008 Championship, as a last-ditch MJ Tierney attempt to send the game to extra-time slithered the wrong side of the cross-bar, as Down held out for a two-point win.

Kingston scores crucial as Laois advance in All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers E-mail

A 55th minute Donal Kingston goal was the catalyst for victory as 14-man Laois booked a spot in the Round 2 All-Ireland Football Qualifiers draw, following a two point win over Longford at Pearse Park.

Former Laois manager Mick O'Dwyer isn't surprised by the progress of Wexford and Fermanagh to their respective Provincial finals, following victories over Laois and Derry in their penultimate round encounters last weekend. Writing today in the 'Irish Sun' the Kerryman believes that despite 2008 becoming the 'year of the Underdog' in the GAA Senior Football Championship, he isn't too surprised.

GAA President to meet with Aussie Rules agent E-mail

GAA President Nickey Brennan and Árd Stiurthoir Pauric Duffy are set to meet with Aussie Rules agent Ricky Nixon 'out of courtesy' next week, in order to pinpoint the Australians plans in relation to the recruitment of GAA players for Aussie Rules. It was reported this week that Nixon's company Fllying Start Management are currently creating a draft-like system for Aussie Rules clubs interested in investing in GAA players, with Nixon stating that six clubs have expressed an interest in the scheme to date.
